Pennsylvania is the third-largest emitter of carbon pollution in the U.S., but a series of recent moves signal that the Commonwealth is looking to change course. In addition to joining the Transportation and Climate Initiative, Governor Wolf also signed an executive order to set the first-ever statewide goal to slash climate pollution. In another first, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission authorized the state’s first utility-administered transportation electrification program. And recent analysis demonstrates that if the Commonwealth rapidly accelerated electric vehicle adoption, Pennsylvania drivers and utility customers could see billions in cumulative benefits. Policymakers should seize this momentum and put Pennsylvania in the driver’s seat toward a modern, clean, and equitable transportation future.
